THE MAIN MENU
F1 HELP: This on-screen facility is available showing a summary of the
commands and options.
F2 CHANGE MODE: Select either - CHARACTER, LINE, JUSTIFY, RIGHT ADJUST
F3 SET MARGINS: Use left and right cursor keys to set the left margin
(then press RETURN) and then the right margin.
F4 SET TABS: Move the cursor on the RULER (using left/right cursor
keys) to the position that you wish to set up/remove a tab. Press F4
to set a tab, if a tab already exits, it will be removed.
F5 LOAD FILE: You will be prompted for a filename, up to 30 characters
and press RETURN.
F6 PAGE FEED: Produces a form feed on your printer.
F7 PRINTER OPTIONS: Move the highlighted bar over the option you wish
to change (using up/down cursor keys) and then use the left and right
cursor keys to switch the option ON/OFF, etc.
F8 EXIT: When leaving E-TYPE, you will be prompted: SAVE THIS FORMAT
(N/Y)?. If you select Y, the format you have set up (ie margin, tab,
mode, printer options, bell, wordwrap) will be saved with the program.
THERE ARE 4 MODES
CHARACTER: Prints character by character
LINE: Prints line by line
JUSTIFY: Like LINE but with justification. WORDWRAP must be set
ON. If you press RETURN before the end of the line, the
text will not be justified.
RIGHT ADJUST: Like LINE MODE but with text aligned at the right
margin, WORDWRAP must be set to OFF.
^B BOLD OFF: This shows whether bold is ON or OFF (as defined in
the printer options). You may change this directly
by pressing CTRL B.
^U UNDERLINE OFF: As above, change directly using CTRL U
^W WORDWRAP OFF: As above, but only in LINE mode, change directly
using CTRL W.
^L BELL ON: As above, change directly using CTRL L
THE STATUS LINE
COLUMN: Shows current cursor position
MODE: Shows current mode
SPACES REMAINING: Shows number of spaces before end of line
WORD COUNT: Show number of words typed to date. This may be
zeroed by pressing CTRL Z.
EDITING YOUR TEXT
You are provided with various editing facilities. However, their
effect does vary pending on the current mode:
When in CHARACTER mode:
left cursor backspace
right cursor space
delete, -del, backspace backspace
When in all other modes:
Unlike CHARACTER mode all characters are inserted at the current
cursor position (use the space bar to insert a space)
left cursor moves cursor left
right cursor moves cursor right
delete, -del, backspace deletes character left of cursor
