  1. THE MAIN MENU
  2.  
  3. F1 HELP: This on-screen facility is available showing a summary of the 
  4. commands and options.
  5.  
  6. F2 CHANGE MODE: Select either - CHARACTER, LINE, JUSTIFY, RIGHT ADJUST
  7.  
  8. F3 SET MARGINS: Use left and right cursor keys to set the left margin 
  9. (then press RETURN) and then the right margin.
  10.  
  11. F4 SET TABS: Move the cursor on the RULER (using left/right cursor 
  12. keys) to the position that you wish to set up/remove a tab. Press F4 
  13. to set a tab, if a tab already exits, it will be removed.
  14.  
  15. F5 LOAD FILE: You will be prompted for a filename, up to 30 characters 
  16. and press RETURN.
  17.  
  18. F6 PAGE FEED: Produces a form feed on your printer.
  19.  
  20. F7 PRINTER OPTIONS: Move the highlighted bar over the option you wish 
  21. to change (using up/down cursor keys) and then use the left and right 
  22. cursor keys to switch the option ON/OFF, etc.
  23.  
  24. F8 EXIT: When leaving E-TYPE, you will be prompted: SAVE THIS FORMAT 
  25. (N/Y)?. If you select Y, the format you have set up (ie margin, tab, 
  26. mode, printer options, bell, wordwrap) will be saved with the program.

  28. THERE ARE 4 MODES
  29.  
  30. CHARACTER:    Prints character by character 
  31. LINE:         Prints line by line
  32. JUSTIFY:      Like LINE but with justification. WORDWRAP must be set  
  33.               ON. If you press RETURN before the end of the line, the       
  34.               text will not be justified.
  35. RIGHT ADJUST: Like LINE MODE but with text aligned at the right  
  36.               margin, WORDWRAP must be set to OFF.
  37.  
  38. ^B BOLD OFF:      This shows whether bold is ON or OFF (as defined in 
  39.                   the printer options). You may change this directly    
  40.                   by pressing CTRL B.
  41.  
  42. ^U UNDERLINE OFF: As above, change directly using CTRL U
  43.  
  44. ^W WORDWRAP OFF:  As above, but only in LINE mode, change directly 
  45.                   using CTRL W.
  46.  
  47. ^L BELL ON:       As above, change directly using CTRL L
  48.  
  49. THE STATUS LINE
  50.  
  51. COLUMN:             Shows current cursor position
  52. MODE:               Shows current mode
  53. SPACES REMAINING:   Shows number of spaces before end of line
  54. WORD COUNT:         Show number of words typed to date. This may be 
  55.                     zeroed by pressing CTRL Z.
  56.  
  57. EDITING YOUR TEXT
  58.  
  59. You are provided with various editing facilities. However, their 
  60. effect does vary pending on the current mode:
  61.  
  62. When in CHARACTER mode:
  63. left cursor              backspace
  64. right cursor             space
  65. delete, -del, backspace  backspace
  66.  
  67. When in all other modes:
  68. Unlike CHARACTER mode all characters are inserted at the current 
  69. cursor position (use the space bar to insert a space)
  70.  
  71. left cursor               moves cursor left
  72. right cursor              moves cursor right
  73. delete, -del, backspace   deletes character left of cursor
  74.
